Another Round Of Thunderstorm And Hailstorm For Telangana

April 25, 2023 1:46 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The state of Telangana has received isolated thunderstorms during the past 24 hours. Nizamabad recorded moderate showers amounting to 16mm of rainfall. Pre-monsoon activity will pick up pace over the next few days. Chances of hailstorms may also build up at a few places including the state capital in the next 2-3 days.

The Cyclonic circulation is marked over central Madhya Pradesh and a north-south trough extending up to interior parts of Tamil Nadu, cutting across the state of Telangana.  It is quite usual for this trough to oscillate left and right over the central parts of the South Peninsula. The Bay of Bengal is also actively infusing moisture across the coastline to deep inland over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and North Karnataka.

Telangana is already rain surplus in the pre-monsoon season. It has an excess of huge 83% between 01st March and 24th April. The state is likely to receive scattered rain and thundershowers in the remaining days of April.  Rain/ thundershowers are likely over the western half of the state in the next 3 days. Increased risk of lightning and thunderstorms is likely for Ramgundam, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Siddipet, Medak and Hyderabad.

Pre-monsoon season remains peculiar for unequitable spread and intensity of weather activity. Heat continues to be the main trigger for raising the severity of the weather.  State capital Hyderabad and some other locations like Medak, Vikarabad and Ramgundam are more vulnerable to hailstorms between the 25th and 27th of April.
