Another round of rain and snow awaited in Northern Hills

March 7, 2018 2:35 PM |

Rain in Jammu and Kashmir

After a brief break, another round of rain and snow is expected to occur over the hills of North India. As per Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance can be seen over North Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan. This weather system is expected to approach Jammu and Kashmir by March 9.

In the wake of this, light to moderate rain and snow is expected at many places over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Few parts of Uttarakhand may also expect some light rain.

However, as compared with the prior successive Western Disturbances, this weather system would not be very active in nature. Thus, possibilities of heavy to very heavy snow are ruled out. Although, the weather activity could pose some hazards in terms of landslides and road blockages. The weather would then start clearing by March 11.

The last Western Disturbance had approached the Western Himalayas on March 4 that gave a good amount of rain and snow to the hilly states of North India.

After March 4, these rain and snow sessions took a back seat and for the last 48 hours, the weather of northern hills remained dry, leading to a slight rise in temperatures.

The next is anticipated on March 9 and thus this is the longest time between two Western Disturbances this season. It is due to this gap of 5 days that northerly winds from the Western Himalayas were able to set in. This flow of winds resulted in the drop-in temperatures over entire northwestern plains.

Now, due to the approach of a fresh Western Disturbance, the minimums are once again expected to rise over northwestern plains around March 9 and 10.
