During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain and thundershower activity accompanied with strong winds was observed at many places in the Western Himalayas, comprising the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Due to these rains the temperatures have decreased significantly in the region.
The reason for the pleasant weather condition in the hill states is the Western Disturbance which is lying over northeastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir. This system is now moving away in East-northeast direction.
A small respite from the rainfall activity in the region is expected today. The day temperature would increase significantly during the next 24 hours with rain taking a backseat. However, another weather system is ready to affect the region.
Presently, a fresh Western Disturbance lies over northern parts of Afghanistan and its associated induced Cyclonic Circulation lies over Central parts of Pakistan. As both the systems would be moving east-northeastwards hence, another fresh spell of rain and thundershower is being forecast for all the three hill states from the evening of May 26. These rains will be accompanied with strong gusty winds.
The effect of this system would be more in the northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Places like Gulmarg, Anantnag, Srinagar, Lahul and Spiti, Manali, Kullu, Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Chamoli would experience these rains and thundershower.
