After reeling under heatwave conditions, almost the entire northwest plains of the country is finally witnessing rainy days. The last week proved to be a rainy week for almost all the states of Northwest India. Be it Delhi, Punjab, Haryana or Rajasthan, on and off rain and thundershowers became a common scene the entire week.
On account of this, the weather also became pleasant. The day temperatures that were witnessing a near 40-degree Celsius along with a few districts that even surpassed the 40-degree mark also curtailed a few notches. In fact, light rainy spells also occurred last night in Delhi that made the weather pleasant and cool.
As per Skymet Weather, the weather conditions across these states is due to the passage of the Western Disturbance which is over northeast Jammu and Kashmir and is moving away. The passing of this weather system gave rains but now, as it is moving away, the weather has become dry and clear once again.
However, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayan region May 2 onward. Thus, dust storms and thundershowers are expected to lash Rajasthan from May 3. Rain and thundershowers are also expected to commence in Haryana, Punjab and West Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Parts of Delhi may also experience isolated thundershowers.
These rains are likely to make their appearance from May 3 and are expected to continue until May 4. The heatwave has already abated from these regions and due to the upcoming weather system, no significant change in the temperatures is likely for another 4-5 days.
