Rain in Gujarat

After much anticipation, Southwest Monsoon 2019 finally made its presence felt in Gujarat on June 25. Despite the arrival, no intense Monsoon rains have been observed so far and the state only has been recording scattered light to moderate rains. Moreover, these rains have remained mostly confined to the southern and eastern districts of the state.

According to Skymet Weather, it is only South and East Gujarat that have been performing quite good in terms of rains and today also we expect a few good spells of rain to lash these regions. By tomorrow, the intensity will increase and the chances of a few heavy spells cannot be ruled out. Thereafter, rains will taper over the region. Places like Surat, Valsad, Bhavnagar, Baroda, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad will get to see these Monsoon showers for the next 48 hours.

Further, a good spell of Monsoon rains is expected around July 4, when a Low-Pressure Area in the Bay of Bengal would start moving inland towards Maharashtra and thereafter towards the Gujarat region. During this period, moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy spells may occur over many parts of the state. Moreover, these rains would help in improving the water levels in the reservoirs and also in soil moisture restoration.

During the last 24 hours, the eastern districts of Gujarat have observed light rain and thundershower activities. These rains have helped in pulling down the temperatures, thus making the weather comfortable for the residents. As more rains will lash the state today and tomorrow as well, the weather would remain the same and mercury would settle down below the 40-degree mark only.
