After experiencing good snowfall in the wake of an active Western Disturbance during the last week, cold wave, as well as cold day conditions, have gripped the hills of North India. Minimums have hit the sub-zero mark with maximums also settling in single digits now. In fact, temperatures in Vaishno Devi (Jammu and Kashmir) are close to the freezing point.

Amidst intense Winters, the hilly states of North India are once again gearing up for a fresh spell of rain and snowfall. An active Western Disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayas by December 18 and may continue to affect the region until December 21.

However, this particular system would not be as active or intense as the previous one and thus the intensity of rain and snowfall is expected to be less.

From December 18, the weather would turn partly cloudy and weather activities would commence December 19 onward in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Uttarakhand.

Famous tourist attractions like Manali, Shimla, Kufri, Vaishno Devi are likely to experience a fresh spell of rain and snowfall during this span. Although chances of any major disruption are less, minor hindrance as to blockage of roads cannot be ruled out.

It is also the best time to visit if you want to enjoy skiing and other snow sports. Pilgrims would find it easy to make it to the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine due to less rush.
