Another heavy rain spell is approaching northwest India including Delhi

Delhi is rain deficient by 20%, this monsoon season. Punjab and Haryana have received normal rainfall. Haryana is surplus by 8% while Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are rain surplus by 5% each, this monsoon season.

Monsoon rainfall distribution over Uttar Pradesh is not uniform. East Uttar Pradesh is rain surplus by 24% whereas West Uttar Pradesh is rain deficient by 30%.

We expect rain activities to increase over many parts of Uttar Pradesh from July 28. Rain activities over Delhi Punjab and Haryana will intensify from July 29th. These rain activities are expected to continue until the first week of August. Northern districts of Uttar Pradesh will witness heavy to very heavy rains on July 28 and 29. By the end of the first week of August, Delhi will reduce its rain deficiency and will become rain surplus marginally.

The last rain spell was witnessed by northern Plains between July 18 and 22nd. We expect this upcoming rain spell will be much heavy and widespread. The heavy downpour over foothills of Uttar Pradesh, may lead to waterlogging and flash floods. Northern districts such as Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Moradabad, Balrampur, and Gonda main get affected in terms of local flooding.

The weather across Indo Gangetic plains from Punjab to East India will become comfortable and temperatures may subside by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius during this rain spell.
