The hills of North India have been witnessing an episode of rain and snow. The Western Disturbance which was responsible for such weather activities will move away today. Weather will once again go almost dry, however, isolated rain and snow may continue due to the remnants of the system.
Another fresh Western Disturbance will approach the Western Himalayan region by tonight. Thus, rain and snow will increase once again over most parts of Western Himalayas including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Moreover, there may be moderate to heavy rain and snow over Western Himalayas until January 7. On January 8, the intensity of rain and snow will start decreasing from Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
However, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may continue to get moderate to heavy rain and snowfall. Its impact will be felt in the northern plains as well, in the form of rain and thundershower activities.
Snow may be seen in Shimla, Manali, Srinagar, Nainital, Mussoorie, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and other adjoining areas.
Now, the maximums of Western Himalayas will drop down significantly and the possibility of mudslides, landslides, snowslides which may cause road blockages and closures.
While travelling to the hills, tourists must exercise caution as the chances of traffic jams also increase and they may be stuck in these jams. The chances of avalanaches also become probable due to accumulation of fresh snowfall.
By January 9, weather of hills will clear up and temperatures in the plains may start to reduce as cold winds will blow over the region.
