Another day of rain expected in Chhattisgarh

June was the best month in terms of rainfall for the state of Chhattisgarh. During this period the state observed rainfall surplus of 41%. But due to significant drop in rainfall amounts, the month of July ended with a deficiency of 9%. Since then occasional rainfall has been observed in many parts of the state - particularly in the southern and central parts - but the deficiency has only been rising.

For instance, the rainfall deficiency in the state as on September 16 was 17%. However, a depression over South Chhattisgarh and its adjoining area has given widespread moderate to heavy rain in the state, which is likely to pull down the deficiency.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, the state capital Raipur recorded 80.2 mm of rain. Rajnandgaon and Durg observed 73 mm and 71.2 mm of rain, respectively during the same period. While Pendra observed 65.1 mm of rain, Bilaspur 49.5 mm and Jagdalpur 31.8 mm of rainfall.

The depression is now moving in a west-northwest direction and is therefore expected to give good rain on September 17 in many parts of South and Central Chhattisgarh. By September 18 the intensity of rainfall will decrease but scattered rain will continue at some places.
