We are halfway through November and we can see a dip in the morning temperatures. However, the temperatures have yet not come to a single-digit category.
Presently, the moderate northwesterly winds are blowing over the northern plains of our country. Hence isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan may witness single digit minimums soon. Usually the places like Amritsar, Jalandhar, Sikar Churu, Hisar witness single digit minimums at first.
To date, the dense fog has been a miss over the Indo-Gangetic Plains. However, shallow to moderate fog has been a sight over the plains of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Today the visibility has been less than 500 metres over Pantnagar in Uttarakhand and Fursatganj in East Uttar Pradesh.
As per our experts, in the coming days and in the morning hours, the fog will be a sight.
For the formation of fog, certain parameters need to be met. For instance, winds should be light and variable, low temperature during the morning hours and high humidity levels.
For now, we do see a drop in the minimums but in wake of high humidity levels and wind speed, we are not able to see the fog. It seems like by the end of November or in the first week of December, fog is expected to set in over the Indo-Gangetic Plains.
If we go back to last year, then Delhi and many parts of the northern plains remained almost fog-free. Dense to very dense fog was witnessed on very rare occasions.
