As predicted by Skymet Weather, coastal Andhra Pradesh saw some good pre-Monsoon rain activity in the later part of the day today. Cities like that of Vishakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Ongole, Vijayanagaram, Nellore, Machilipatnam, and Kakinada reported these rains.
While places like that of Kurnool, Anantapur, Amaravati, Cuddapah and Chittoor in Rayalaseema region too recorded some scattered rains accompanied with thunderstorm. These rains brought about some relief from the ongoing heat wherein, temperatures dropped by about a degree or two. Heat wave conditions have abated from the region completely for now. On the other hand, humidity saw a steep rise over the area.
The reason for these rains can be attributed to the presence of a semi-permanent North-South Trough extending from Jharkhand to Karnataka.
These rains are expected to continue for the next four-five days and will decrease tomorrow onward.
As predicted by Skymet Weather, till then, Monsoon is likely to make an arrival over the Indian mainland starting with the state of Kerala.
In the past few days, Southwest Monsoon has advanced over extreme South Sri Lanka, most parts of South Arabian Sea, more parts of Maldives-Comorin region, Southwest, Southeast and east coast of Bay of Bengal along with North Andaman Sea.
