Andhra Pradesh receives record breaking Monsoon rains

September 13, 2016 10:44 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Southwest Monsoon has been active over Andhra Pradesh for the last few days. All thanks to the low pressure area which is now lying over coastal areas of South Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

During last 24 hours, Andhra Pradesh has received moderate to heavy rains. Ongole recorded 145 mm, Adilabad 56 mm, Bapatla 54 mm, Kalingapatnam 27 mm and Kurnool 23 mm of rainfall.

Ongole which has received extremely heavy rains of 145 mm in a span of 24 hours, has set a new record. During last 10 years it has not received such heavy rains. In fact, the monthly average rainfall in Ongole is just 148 mm of rainfall. Now due the low pressure area over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh we expect more spells of heavy rains over the state, at least during next 24 hours.

Rayalseema is at present 3% rain surplus while Coastal Andhra Pardesh has received 2% more rains than normal. Overall the state is witnessing surplus rains of 2%.

The next episode of rains in Andhra Pradesh will be observed when another cyclonic circulation starts developing over the Bay of Bengal next week.
