Andhra Pradesh rains score 50 mm every day in June

Rain in Andhra PradeshAfter the onset of Southwest Monsoon, it takes about a week for the Monsoon current to reach Andhra Pradesh. In the interim period, pre-Monsoon showers remain on the rise. However, rains are not evenly spread during this time. Coastal areas receive heavy rainfall at times and this is exactly what we are seeing now.

Monthly rainfall average during this time settles between 100 mm and 250 mm.  In the first 10 days of June, varying intensity rains of have been observed at various locations. Practically, it has been raining on a routine basis but not heavy across the region simultaneously. Heavy rains have been observed at a few places at a time. This is then basic characteristic of pre-Monsoon showers.

It’s no secret that rains have been sufficient and widespread over the state since the beginning of June. Most of the places are half way through their monthly average rainfall. There has been at least one station which has scored half a century in terms of rainfall every day so far.

Here’s a look at the highest 24-hour rainfall figures in millimeters so far this month:

Rains have been observed all along the coast and a little inside. This is like typical pre-Monsoon rains. Conditions remain conducive for continuous rains over the region during next few days.

Though the interiors of Peninsular India are still witnessing extreme heat, the coastal areas have cooled down. Day temperatures will continue to settle in the range of 33 to 35 degree Celsius.
