On May 2 and 3, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh was lashed by heavy rains due to Cyclone Fani. However, soon after the Cyclone moving northwards, temperatures increased in many parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The blowing of northerly and northwesterly hot winds led to the emergence of heat wave over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. While, temperatures in Rayalaseema remained above normal.

Heat wave conditions are still continuing over isolated pockets of Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. However, isolated rainfall activities were a sight in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh in the past 24 hours due to a Cyclonic Circulation in the lower levels of North Tamil Nadu. According to experts, the weather would now remain dry over these regions.

However, scattered rain and thundershower activities is likely in Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Places like Godavari, Kakinada, Kavali and Guntur might get to witness pre-Monsoon activities. While, heat wave conditions will persist for another 48 hours in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Thereafter, a trough is likely to form from Vidarbha up to Tamil Nadu across Telangana and Rayalaseema. Whereas, light rains in Telangana would be a sight on May 11. Scattered rains will be a sight in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on May 12.

Between May 12-14, intermittent rain and thundershowers will be a sight in Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema with less intensity over Telangana. Temperatures are expected to drop during this period and would lead to abatement of heat wave conditions. Also, these pre-Monsoon showers would help in restoring soil moisture and much needed relief is in the offing for both these states.
