Parts of Punjab and Haryana have received on and off rains during almost the entire month of August. In fact, the month of September also kick started with good rains for a few districts of both the states.

The last 24 hours brought moderate to heavy spells for parts of these states that helped in curtailing down the maximum temperatures which settled under 35 degrees.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Ludhiana recorded 43 mm of rains, Patiala 15 mm, Amritsar 12.8 mm, Jalandhar 10 mm, Rohtak 72 mm, Karnal 3 mm and Hisar recorded 2 mm of light spells.

The reason for these moderate spells as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough which is running across Punjab and Haryana. It was due to this weather system that both the states had recorded moderate to heavy showers.

Skymet Weather further reiterates that as of now, scattered light to moderate rains is likely to continue in parts of these states until September 2.

Thereafter, the intensity of rains is expected to reduce over both the states but isolated light spells will keep on drenching several districts of the state such as Amritsar, Chandigarh, Ambala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Karnal, Patiala, and Hisar.

At present both the states of Punjab and Haryana are rain deficient by 19% and 31% respectively. Though the prediction of these rains over the states will not impact much and will not do many wonders in bringing down the prevailing rainfall deficiency.
