The states of Punjab and Haryana have been observing chilly weather conditions for quite some time. In fact, winter has begun to tighten its grip, particularly over these areas of the Northwestern Plains. The absence of any significant weather system has kept the plains devoid of any rainfall activity.
Thus, fog has remained persistent due to which cold conditions have aggravated over the region. In the past day or two, fog has relented over some parts with only few areas witnessing dense to very dense fog. However, cold conditions have not only remained but also intensified in many parts of these two neighbouring states.

Today, the minimum temperatures at Ambala, Amritsar as well as Patiala dropped and were recorded to be the lowest of this season. While Ambala recorded its minimum at 2.3°C which happens to be 4 degrees below normal levels. Previously, the lowest minimum had settled at 5.6°C.
Similarly, today Patiala recorded its minimum at 4.1°C which is three degrees below normal. Previously, the lowest minimum here had settled at 4.6°C. Meanwhile, Amritsar recorded its minimum at 1.2°C which is two degrees below normal and its previous low minimum was at 2.6°C.
These low minimums are not unusual as the region does witness very cold weather conditions. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, weather will continue to follow a similar pattern. Marginal change in weather pattern here and there can be seen but significant relief is not expected. In fact, nights will continue to remain as chilly as they are.
