The Western Himalayas have experienced light to moderate rain and thundershower activities at isolated places during the last 24 hours. Amidst rains, the first batch of Amarnath Yatris on Sunday left Jammu for the Kashmir Valley, in order to begin this year's annual Hindu pilgrimage to the Himalayan cave shrine.
According to Skymet Weather, at present, a Western Disturbance as an upper air Trough lies over the northern parts of Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. This system would slowly move northeastwards, thus giving more rains over the hills of North India. We expect, light rain and thundershower activities to lash the scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Moreover, easterly winds are prevailing along the foothills of Uttarakhand, thus leading to an increase in rainfall activities over the Uttarakhand region.
Places like Srinagar, Banihal, Gulmarg, Jammu, Udhampur, Shimla, Lahaul and Spiti, Dharamshala, Nainital, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Almora, Mukteshwar and Chamoli will experience rain and thundershowers for the next 36 to 48 hours. Thereafter, rains will taper over the region.
As a result of these rains, the hilly region would become slippery, thus pilgrims are advised to take due precautions. Moreover, in the wake of these activities, the day temperatures would drop over all the three hilly states.
