Ambikapur witnesses record breaking rain, highest in a decadeThe state of Chhattisgarh has been receiving good Monsoon rains for quite some time now. So much so that several areas have also witnessed some heavy showers amounting to three digit rains. There was a slight breather in between. However, Monsoon rains have once again made a comeback over the state.

Several cities are receiving good rains, out of which, Ambikapur is one such city where heavy rains are being observed. The city has recorded three digit rains on two consecutive days. While Ambikapur received 104 mm of rain a day before, the city received 126 mm of rain in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday.

Also, the 24 hours’ rain figure also happens to be the highest in a decade. The last time the city had received such heavy rains was on August 4, 2012. These rains have also helped Ambikapur surpass its monthly mean in less than two weeks.

So far, Ambikapur has recorded 440 mm of rainfall against its monthly rains of 389.9 mm. Last year, Ambikapur had only recorded 256.5 mm in the entire month.

These rains can be attributed to the well-marked low pressure area which is presently stationary over Jharkhand and adjoining areas. Due to this weather system, the city is expected to receive more rains in the next 24 to 48 hours as well.
