Monsoon arrived in Chhattisgarh with a week’s delay. However, occasional showers have been pouring over most parts of the districts ever since the month of June began. Somewhat similar is the condition with Ambikapur that has been witnessing showers with a gap of a day or two.

In fact, the last 24 hours have been one of the rainiest days the city has seen wherein Ambikapur recorded very hefty three digit rainfall of 156 mm. In fact taking these rains into consideration, the city has recorded a total of 214 mm of rains so far in the month of June.

However, even with these rains, the city failed to surpass its monthly average rainfall which stands at 251.1 mm. But, with a single day left for the month to get over, it’s a wait and a watch situation if the city succeeds in surpassing its daunting monthly mean.

Skymet Weather reiterates that the reason for this three-digit rainfall over Ambikapur can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation that is persisting over Odisha and Jharkhand. Moreover, a trough is also passing from Gujarat to the Bay of Bengal across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. In the wake of this, heavy to extremely heavy rains occurred over Chhattisgarh.

As of now, these rains are likely to continue and few more heavy showers are expected to lash North Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours. Hence, districts like Ambikapur, Raigarh, Raipur, Rajnandgaon, Koriya can brace for a few more heavy showers.

In fact, in the last 24 hours, the other districts of the state too recorded moderate with a few isolated showers of rain.  Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Rajnandgaon recorded 42 mm of rains, Pendra Road 37.6 mm, Durg 6.8 mm, and Raipur witnessed 4.9 mm of rains.
