Alappuzha, Kannur, Honnavar, Kozhikode, Harnai to see light to moderate rains

Since last many days, heavy to very heavy rains have been occurring over many parts of coastal Maharashtra. In fact, remaining parts of West Coast including Kerala and coastal parts of Karnataka have also been recording a good amount of rains. So, the residents of the entire West Coast region has been experiencing comfortable weather conditions.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Harnai recorded heaviest rainfall of 319 mm of rainfall, Ratnagiri 27 mm, Alibag 24 mm, Honnavar 14 mm, Thane 10 mm, Panambur and Thrissur 7 mm, Karwar and Cochin 6 mm, Alappuzha 4 mm, Mangaluru and Kozhikode 3 mm, Madikeri, Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur 2 mm and Vengurla 1 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to an offshore trough which is seen extending from North Konkan up to Kerala. Another trough is seen running from North Madhya Pradesh up to North Madhya Maharashtra region.

In wake of these two weather systems, light to moderate showers are expected to continue over coastal parts of Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka and a few parts of Kerala during the next 24 hours.

However, after 24 hours, the intensity of these good rains is likely to reduce significantly over Konkan & Goa region as well as over coastal Karnataka. Whereas, scattered light showers are likely to continue over Kerala during the next two to three days.

In the meantime, several cities such as Madikeri, Alappuzha, Ratnagiri, Harnai, Kozhikode, Honnavar, Alibag, Thane, Thrissur, Karwar, Cochin and Vengurla will continue to witness light to moderate rains.

But from September 26, the intensity of these rains is expected to increase once again over several parts of Coastal Karnataka and South Konkan region. Thus, comfortable weather conditions are anticipated to persist along the entire West Coast.
