Vidarbha, the sub-division of Maharashtra has been receiving on and off rains since the beginning of July. Due to rains, the weather conditions have improved during the past few days.

While the maximums were settling at 32 degrees about a week ago, temperatures have now dropped to 25.5°C. Thus, pleasant weather conditions continue to persist and conditions are likely to remain the same for the next few days.

During the last 48 hours, Akola has recorded a good 149 mm of rainfall. While the city had received 84 mm rain a day before, 65 mm of rainfall was recorded during the last 24 hours. With this, the rainfall figures of Akola during the month of July have reached 211 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the low-pressure area which is currently over Northeast Madhya Pradesh. Now, this system is expected to persist for another 24 hours and rainfall activity is likely to continue. So much so that Akola may easily be able to surpass its monthly rains in the next 24 to 48 hours only.

The monthly average rainfall for Akola City in Vidarbha during the month of July stands at 231.6 mm. Thus, with about three weeks left in July, Akola is expected to quite easily surpass its monthly rains. The city may break its decade old monthly rainfall record of 333.3 mm if the trend of moderate to heavy rain continues.
