Pollution seems to have made a home in Delhi as the city continues to fight ‘severe’ air for the third consecutive day today. Delhiites woke up to another day of smog this morning as well with the rising Sun contesting to shine in over the region.

According to meteorologists at Skymet, there is no respite in sight from this poisonous air until Saturday as cloudy conditions, calm winds and low temperatures will keep prevailing.

Moreover, yesterday was the season’s third-worst air day after November 1 and 3 with an average air quality of 463, which is worse than 456 recorded the previous day. The wind speed on Thursday was very low, at 5-6 km per hour, which was not allowing the dispersion of pollutants.

Air pollution has already led to shutting down of schools in Delhi NCR. Moreover, this time Children’s Day saw not a single child attending the school.

Not just Delhi but adjoining regions of NCR saw almost similar air quality. The smog was spread across Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh. While Ghaziabad and Noida recorded an average AQI of 486, Faridabad saw the AQI settle at 437, Greater Noida 467 and Gurugram 412.

An increase in wind speed is forecast by Saturday which is likely to improve the air quality to “very poor”. Pollution might clear further by Sunday.
