Rain bearing clouds were hovering over many parts of the state since yesterday early morning hours. Rains followed the cloudy weather lashing districts like Ahmedabad, Valsad, Gandhinagar, and Amreli soon. Moreover, these rains are likely to intensify further and districts like Valsad, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, and Surendranagar can brace for heavy to very heavy rains.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Valsad recorded very heavy rains of 92 mm followed by Idar that witnessed moderate showers of 23 mm, Diu 15 mm, Surat 13 mm, Gandhinagar 9 mm, Ahmedabad 5 mm, and Rajkot witnessed just 1 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these light to moderate with isolated heavy showers can be associated with a well-marked low-pressure area over central Madhya Pradesh. However, at present, this system is over West Madhya Pradesh.

Furthermore, it is likely to intensify further into a depression by tomorrow and is expected to travel across Gujarat. In the wake of this, heavy to extremely heavy rains are likely to occur over most parts of the state. The intensity of rains that occurred over Gujarat yesterday is also expected to intensify further.

As per Skymet Weather, Gujarat will continue to get heavy to extremely heavy rains for the next 48 hours. Hence, Gujarat rains are likely to batter parts of the state till July 15. However, by July 16, rains are expected to reduce marginally but many parts of the state will still continue to be blessed with good rains.

Already sowing of Kharif crop has been done and such heavy rains may damage the crop due to water logging and flash flooding.
