Southwest Monsoon's run so far has not been too bad with the state of Gujarat. Good Monsoon showers have made frequent appearances over many parts of Gujarat. Cities including Ahmedabad, Valsad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Surat etc. have witnessed a few heavy spells of rains in between as well.

However, there has been a reduction in the good spell of Monsoon showers during the past 24 hours. Monsoon remained subdued over the state during this time frame with only light rains making an appearance over a few areas. Only isolated pockets witness a couple of moderate rainy spells.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Valsad witnessed 17 mm of rain, Okha 7 mm, Dwarka 6 mm, Kandla 6 mm, Gandhinagar 3 mm, Bhavnagar 2 mm, and Ahmedabad 3 mm.

These reduced rains are a result of no significant weather system persisting over the region. However, that is about to change and many areas of Gujarat are expected to witness an increase in Monsoon rains.

A cyclonic circulation has developed over South Pakistan and adjoining Kutch region. Also, a low pressure area is over East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining North Madhya Pradesh. This system will move towards Gujarat across Madhya Pradesh further inetnsifying into a low pressure area and will merge with the cyclonic circulation over Kutch leading to heavy showers.

Thus, while light to moderate rains are expected over the state of Gujarat during the next 24 hours, rainfall intensity is likely to witness an increase by July 13 and many areas are expected to witness moderate to heavy rains during that time. Not only this, around July 14 and 15, extremely heavy rains may occur over many areas of the state which may result in waterlogging and flash flooding.
