
Cold wave conditions have gripped state of Gujarat, severe than before, with single digit temperatures expanding in space and intensity. The interiors of the state have plummeted to register lowest margin of the season. Minimum temperature has nose dived over the state capital Gandhinagar and twin city Ahmedabad. Unprecedented drop of 6-8°C in 24hr has caught large pockets of the state unaware.
The capital city Gandhinagar recorded minimum temperature of 4.3°C, the lowest of the season, so far. The earlier undermost of 6.5°C was measured on 21st&22nd Dec 2021. Following same track, Ahmedabad also has observed season’s lowest of 6.5°C, as against earlier mark of 9.1°C on 09thJan. These minimum temperatures are 8°C and 6°C lower than the normal at Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad respectively. Cold wave conditions prevail over and around the capital city and some other pockets of the state. Naliya in Kutch region competed with Gandhinagar by recording 4.6°C, the 2nd lowest in the state. This coastal town had earlier witnessed the season’s lowest of 3.6°C on 14thJan2022.
A set of active western disturbance over the mountains and its induced circulation over the northern plains, has surfaced a fresh coat of snow and rain in the entire region.
The dual system is clearing the area, starting with extreme western parts. In the wake of the system, as usual, the icy winds have started sweeping the plains. The cold air is intruding and travelling further up to parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The wind flow down the slopes of mountains will strengthen further over the next couple of days. These chilly winds will make their way, right up to the state of Gujarat between 24th and 28thJan. The freeze will gradually lift thereafter.
National capital Delhi recorded lowest of 8°C today morning. Airport observatory at Palam measured a low of 9.4°C. Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, otherwise not known largely by single digit minimum mercury, become colder than Delhi and suburbs. Delhi temperature is expected to drop over the next 2-4days and become cooler than Gujarat, yet again towards end of the month.
