Gujarat rains and floods_The Asian Age 600

During the last 24 hours, the Southwest Monsoon remained active over several parts of Gujarat. Due to this, various cities have been recording moderate rains and thundershowers along with few heavy spells at one or two places. There is no termination in sight to the monsoon surge which has released an outbreak of death and devastation in the state at least for the next few days.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Deesa recorded 21 mm of rainfall, followed by Bhavnagar at 20 mm, Idar at 10 mm, Rajkot 6.2 mm, Baroda 4.8 mm, Surat 4.1 mm, Amreli 4 mm, Veraval 3.4 mm and Ahmednagar 0.2 mm.

The reason for these moderate to heavy Monsoon rains over the state can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen persisting over Saurashtra and Kutch region. Under the influence of this system, light to moderate rains and thundershowers along with few heavy spells may continue to lash Gujarat region during the next 24 hours. Though the flood like situation over this entire state is likely to improve further.

Places like Ahmedabad, Valsad, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Idar, Surat, Deesa may receive light to moderate rains for another 24 hours. Whereas, Saurashtra and Kutch may also record few good spells.

Furthermore, these rainfall activities are likely to decrease. However, light rains cannot be ruled out over this region for the next 24 hours. As of now, these heavy rains have been continuing to wreak havoc in the entire state.  But the flood like situation in Gujarat is likely to improve gradually in the next 24 to 48 hours.
