Rains have been witnessing a declining trend in Uttar Pradesh. However, the eastern parts of the state had been recording light intensity rains. As per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough is moving from Punjab up to East Central Bay of Bengal across West Uttar Pradesh.

In the past day, the rain intensity has increased over the western parts of the state. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Aligarh received 29.2 mm of moderate intensity rain, Bareilly 27.2 mm, Shahjahanpur 13 mm. Meanwhile, in the same span of time Fursatganj recorded light rain of 8.6 mm, Allahabad 7.2 mm, Agra 2.8 mm and Lucknow 1 mm.
As the trough is shifting further westwards, the Monsoon rains are likely to sustain for the next 24 hours mainly over West Uttar Pradesh. Districts such as Agra, Aligarh, Meerut, and Ghaziabad will continue to witness moderate showers. The districts across the foothills may also record one or two isolated heavy spells. After 24 hours, the rain intensity will once again reduce significantly over the state.

As on August 18, West Uttar Pradesh is rain-deficient by 35 percent and East Uttar Pradesh by 15 percent. As the rains will continue over the western parts of the state, the rain deficiency is expected to reduce. Districts such as Varanasi, Allahabad, Lucknow will record light intensity rains.
