With the beginning of April, pre-monsoon showers have picked up in Agartala, which has recorded 108 mm of rain on Sunday. Moderate to heavy rains have been lashing the capital city for the last five days. So far, Agartala has recorded 238 mm of rain, surpassing the monthly average of 206 mm.
According to the latest forecast by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, more rainy spells are expected over the region for the next three to four days. However, the intensity of rain will vary from time to time.
Agartala is situated on the extreme southern tip of India’s northeastern state of Tripura and shares international border with Bangladesh. Its close proximity to the Bay of Bengal attracts lots of moisture from the sea due to which heavy rain is observed during the pre-monsoon period.
Geographically, Tripura is a mix of all kinds of terrains that include valleys, plains, mountains and sea, which makes it a conducive place for frequent weather activity.
In wake of the recent downpour, both day and night temperatures are settling below normal. On Sunday, the maximum temperature in the city settled at 30.5°C, while the night temperature on Monday morning was observed at 19°C.
The normal average maximum and minimum temperature in Agartala for April is 33.1°C and 22.2°C, respectively.
