You might have missed white Christmas, but you can definitely plan to celebrate new year amidst the scenic locales of snow-clad Himalayas. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are all set to witness fresh spell of snowfall on the new year eve.
According to Skymet Weather, an active Western Disturbance is approaching hills of North India, which is likely to give good snowfall over these areas on December 31 and January 1.
Famous tourist places such as Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Manali, Lahaul Spiti, and Shimla will record rain and snow.
At present also, a Western Disturbance is affecting Jammu and Kashmir but it is feeble in nature. Hence, the system is only capable of giving isolated rain and snow over the region that too over the higher reaches.
Prior to this, an active Disturbance had given good snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on December 25. In fact, Shimla recorded snowfall on Christmas after the span of 24 years.
A good spell of snow had been evading the hilly region for quite a long time this year. As a result, winter chill was not felt across North India. However with the snowfall on December 25, winters tightened its grip over the northern plains and few places also reeled under cold day conditions.
This time also, the approaching Disturbance will induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Haryana that may give rain over parts of North Punjab and Haryana.
Now with the snowfall in hills and rains in Punjab, winter chill will grip the northern plains again and few places may come under the ambit of cold day conditions and dense fog.
