Maximum and minimum temperatures of many parts of Northwest and Central India remained significantly above normal in the month of February 2023. The country has witnessed the highest average maximum temperature in last 122 years during March 2022. The average maximum temperature was 30.7 degrees. Average minimum temperature was second highest with the average of 15.2 degrees while the highest was in 2010 when minimum average was 15.4 degrees.
Long range forecast is indicating that March 2023 is going to be warmer once again. Both day and night temperatures are expected to remain above normal. Scattered rain during first week of March over North India may keep the temperature under control. However, dry weather condition from second week of March along with bright sunshine and clear skies would certainly spike the temperature.
Mercury may touch 40-degree mark during second week of march over parts of Gujarat Rajasthan and Vidarbha. The above normal temperature may have an adverse impact on kharif output. The standing crops of mustard and wheat may suffer the deterioration in quality and output.
