After three-digit rain in Gorakhpur, Monsoon covers parts of Uttar Pradesh

The state of Uttar Pradesh has got a large geographical area and has been divided into two parts i.e. East Uttar Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh. In fact, it has a varied topography, due to which extreme weather conditions in form of heat, rains and winters are witnessed over the state.

Monsoon brings relief over the state from the heat. Normally by June 15, Monsoon strikes the eastern parts of the state and by June 25, Monsoon marks its onset over the entire state.

However, this year Monsoon has been delayed over Uttar Pradesh. Monsoon has just reached up to the adjacent pockets of Bihar making the state highly rain deficient for the month of June.

Talking about the rains over the state, East Uttar Pradesh generally receives more rainfall activity than the western parts of Uttar Pradesh. As of June 27, East Uttar Pradesh has recorded 23.1 mm of rain out of its monthly average of 107.8 mm and is deficient by 69%. Meanwhile, West Uttar Pradesh has recorded 19.6 mm of rain out of its monthly average rain of 71 mm, making it 59% deficient.

During the last 24 hours, eastern districts of the state have received moderate to heavy rains whereas few pockets in central parts have also recorded light to moderate rains.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Gorakhpur has recorded extremely heavy rains to the tune of 232.6 mm, followed by Jhansi 45.6 mm, Shahjahanpur 19 mm, Aligarh 17 mm, Banda 18.1 mm, Hardoi 16.4 mm, Bareilly 12.8 mm, Kanpur 10 mm, Agra 7 mm, Lucknow 0.4 mm.

Thus, Monsoon has marked its onset over the eastern parts of the state along with few parts of West Uttar Pradesh. However, in the next 24-48 hours Monsoon is likely to cover the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.
