After southeast, winter storm heads for northeast US

After claiming more than a dozen lives in southeast, the winter storm is now expected to hit northeast region of the United States of America. The winter storm may cause snowfall in Philadelphia, New York and Boston during the next two days.

According to media reports, the winter storm warnings and advisories were in place from Arkansas east to much of the Atlantic coast, the National Weather Service said. The storm is expected to soak the northeastern United States in the next two days with up to 15 inches (38 cm) of snow.

Snow and freezing rain that were pummeling South Carolina and North Carolina created a dangerous commute for drivers in a hurry to get home as the snowfall got heavier and the ice thickened. A possibly historic accumulation of ice as well as heavy snow was expected to add up to nearly 8 inches (20 cm) of frozen precipitation for Charlotte, North Carolina and 9 inches (23 cm) were forecast for Spartanburg, South Carolina, meteorologists said, according to a report published in the website "Independent.ie".

The deadly winter storm had gripped the southeastern United States on Wednesday, crippling travel, knocking out power to 363,000 homes and business houses said the report.

Another report published in ABC News said that many people took to makeshift sleds on the ice and snow, with at least seven people hospitalized in sledding accidents in Georgia. Four people were hurt sledding in a kayak that crashed into a pole, said Fire Chief Ricky Pruit in Cleveland. One victim suffered leg injuries, another was knocked unconscious and lost several teeth and the other two refused treatment, said a resident.
