The city of Mumbai witnessed extreme heatwave conditions a day ago with the maximum reaching up to 41 degrees Celsius which was not only the highest of the season but also the highest for the month of March since 2011. These maximums settled eight degrees above the normal levels.

In the last 24 hours, there was a slight drop in the maximum temperatures due to which yesterday, the day temperature settled at 38.7 degrees Celsius. However, even this was six degrees above the normal levels and heatwave like conditions still prevailed over the maximum city yesterday as well.

This extreme heat situation had occurred on account of the anti-cyclone over Rajasthan which was sending hot easterly winds from the land resulting in a significant rise in the temperatures. A change in the situation was seen yesterday as now, the anti-cyclone is being pushed away and northerly winds have begun to blow over the region. Additionally, sea breeze also played its role and began to set in over Mumbai earlier than it usually does.

Now, these northerly winds will result in further drop of temperatures by another couple of notches settling in the mid 30s. Sea breeze is expected to set in around 1:30 pm or so. Thus, temperatures will be seen dropping resulting in some relief from the prevailing weather conditions.

However, humidity, which was at about 80 percent in the morning, will continue to be on the higher side due to which discomfort will remain during the afternoon hours. Relief will be seen during the evening hours due to breezy conditions over the city of Mumbai.

In a nutshell, the Godzilla heatwave that had gripped the city of Mumbai will not be seen for some time now.
