Weather in Bengaluru

We are in the first week of March and South Interior Karnataka is already witnessing record breaking temperatures. On March 7, Mysore recorded all time high maximum of 37.9°C which is five degrees above normal. Whereas, previous record was of 37.8°C as on March 30, 1931.

Similarly, on March 7, Bengaluru recorded 37°C which is five degrees above normal. This is the second time in last one decade that Bengaluru has touched upon 37°C. Earlier, on March 26, 2017 Bengaluru recorded 37.2°C whereas all-time record of 37.3°C was established on March 29, 1996. Another station, on March 7, Mandya, a district in Bengaluru recorded 38°C which is four degrees above normal, which is the second time in last decade. On March 27, 2017, Mandya recorded a similar temperature of 38°C.

It is absolutely correct to say that South Interior Karnataka is heating up and heatwave conditions are prevailing over many places. On the contrary, good news is that the temperatures are going to subside by three to four degrees in next 24 hours due to the commencement of southeasterly humid winds from Bay of Bengal.

As per weathermen at Skymet, today and tomorrow, scattered rain and thundershower activities are expected over South Interior Karnataka including Bengaluru and Mysore. These weather activities along with cloud cover might give much needed relief from blazing heat. The cause for heatwave is that the southerly winds blowing over South Interior Karnataka were travelling from Interior Tamil Nadu where temperatures are already touching the mark of 40°C. Hence, resulted in rise in mercury.

Mysore being a tourist place is known for its pleasant weather and similarly Bengaluru is known for its cool and comfortable weather conditions.

Temperatures over South Interior Karnataka are soaring and are above normal by four to five degrees whereas day temperatures over North Interior Karnataka are below normal by two to three degrees.
