As reiterated by Skymet Weather, rains of varying intensity lashed parts of Haryana and Punjab on Sunday. In fact, isolated places of South Haryana also received hailstorm.

During the last 24 hours, few places of Punjab and the southern districts of Haryana received light to moderate rain and thundershower activities. However, activity was short and intense in nature.

These weather activities were due to effect of the Western Disturbance that had induced a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and North Rajasthan.

In wake of these showers, day and night temperatures of both the states have dropped by 3°C to 4°C.

Thus, the warm weather which had been prevailing over these areas since last few days has now become cool and comfortable.

Now, both the systems have moved away eastwards. Thereafter, cold northerly and northwesterly winds are blowing over the northwestern plains.

Due to this, further drop in minimum temperatures is expected, leading to cool and pleasant nights. But day temperatures will once again start rising, resulting in warm and sunny weather during the days.

The states of Punjab and Haryana have not had a very fruitful December and January in terms of rainfall activity. Winter rains had remained on the lower side for both the adjoining states.

However, February was much better as compared to earlier ones. Last month saw two to three spells of light to moderate rains, with few places recording some heavy showers as well.
