A period of dense fog could again disrupt lives in North India during the next two days. The influence of the prevailing Western Disturbance in the plains is expected to lessen, thus northerly winds would resume over areas where moisture content would be high to make conditions favourable for formation of dense fog in Delhi and adjoining plains.
Punjab, Haryana, East Rajasthan, parts of north Madhya Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh have received rain and there is still moisture left in the air. According to our senior meteorologist, “ Fog will depend on the clearance of the Western Disturbance from Jammu & Kashmir. If it clears up three to four hours before sunrise tomorrow morning, falling night temperatures, high humidity levels and sluggish winds would form dense fog conditions during early morning hours. He also said that if the weather system takes time and leaves to region post sunrise, chance of dense fog would be less on Thursday morning.
Dense to very dense fog will continue to affect East India over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The visibility in these areas was reported to be about 100 meters at several places like Gorakhpur, Gaya and Patna. Due to poor visibility, rail and air traffic will remain affected in the next few days. Foggy conditions would also lead to cold day like conditions in these parts during this period.
