Mumbai weather remains free from the clutch of frigid cold conditions throughout the year. So much so that, while the northern parts of the country have been observing severe Cold Wave conditions, weather had remained quite pleasant giving Mumbaikars the upper hand in terms of the no sweater days.
However, there have been winds of change and weather has seen an unexpected twist in Mumbai. So much so that the minimum temperature dropped up to 5 degrees in one day itself. In fact, today, the minimum temperature in Mumbai settled at 12.4 degrees which happens to be the lowest of the season.
The reason for this change in weather are the Cold Wave conditions which are sweeping the Northwestern Plains. Moreover, cold winds from the land, i.e., Sea breeze only blows until midnight after which cold winds from the land blow until the morning hours. Thus, minimums have seen a steep drop in many parts of the state including Mumbai which is seeing the temperature five degrees below the normal levels.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Mumbai and its adjoining areas may witness cold weather like the one in the present scenario until almost the fag end of the year. Thereafter, winds will change direction due to some system forming in the adjoining region which will once again result in the rise in minimums.
Until then, Mumbaikars will have to face a little nip in the air during the night hours giving them a slight taste of winter for a brief period.
