After Kyarr, it is the Cyclone Maha which has been triggering rains in the coastal parts of Maharashtra lately, although the impact has not been the direct one. According to our meteorologists, the system is presently moving across Lakshadweep Islands. It will continue to move in the northwest direction and will reemerge in the East Central Arabian Sea, intensifying further into a Severe Cyclone by today evening.

In the wake of this movement, rains are likely to increase over South Konkan and Goa, wherein places like Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Vengurla, and Harnai may see moderate rain with isolated heavy spells during the next 48 hours.

These rainfall activities would be accompanied by strong winds, in an order of 30-40 km, gusting up to 50 kmph. Moreover, the sea conditions are expected to be rough for the next two to three days, hence fishermen are advised to take due precautions while venturing into the sea.

Meanwhile, Mumbai rains will once again return around November 1 but showers would be isolated light in nature. These rains will help in bringing down the soaring temperatures by 2 to 3 degree Celsius.

Humid winds from the Bay of Bengal would keep increasing the moisture in the interior parts of Maharashtra. A Confluence Zone is also likely to develop due to the mixing of winds from the opposite directions over the region.

Thus, scattered light to moderate rain would continue in parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada as well as Vidarbha until November 1. The city of Pune may observe scattered rain and thundershower activities for at least next two days.

The impact can be already seen as moderate showers have already lashed Madhya Maharashtra and parts of Marathwada during the last 24 hours. The meteorological division of Vidarbha has observed scattered light rain during the same span.

According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Solapur has recorded 33 mm of rain, Nashik 14 mm, Pune 8 mm and Satara 6 mm in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday.

The state of Maharashtra has seen unusual October rains so far and the reason can be attributed to back to back Cyclones. These systems have influenced the weather of the state so much, that Konkan and Goa is rain excess by 133% and Madhya Maharashtra by 172%, at present.

The division of Marathwada which otherwise remains parched has also witnessed good rains and is standing rain surplus at 213%, as per the rainfall data from October 1 to 30.
