Updated on May 5: Kolhapur, Sangli, Latur braces for thunderstorm, light rains today

Despite abatement of heatwave conditions from Maharashtra, the temperatures have been settling above the 40-degree mark in Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra. While, the situation of Konkan is still better with the day time highs getting registered in mid-upper 30’s.

As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation over south of Vidarbha persists and a trough from this system is still seen extending up to coastal Karnataka. Thus, thunderstorm along with light rains can be expected in some parts of South Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining regions of Marathwada today. The regions like Latur, Osmanabad, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Sangli are likely to witness these pre-Monsoon activities.

On the other hand, Vidarbha and Konkan would continue to reel under dry and warm weather conditions. After 48 hours, the temperatures over almost all the regions would start witnessing a rising trend again. The weather of the coastal stations, like Mumbai, Ratnagiri, and Mahabaleshwar would continue to reel under the warm and sultry weather due to its proximity to the Arabian Sea which is feeding in moisture over the region.

Updated on May 4: After intense heat, thunderstorm, light rain in Nagpur, Akola; fruit drop likely

As of now also, the weather of Maharashtra is expected to remain warm and dry over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra. However, as per Skymet Weather, some relief is on the card during the next 24 hours.

A cyclonic circulation lies over south of Vidarbha and a trough from this system is extending up to coastal Karnataka. Thus, the possibilities of some light thunderstorm along with light rains can be expected at some parts of Vidarbha and the adjoining regions of Marathwada today. The regions like Akola, Gondia, Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Hingoli are most likely to get affected by these thunderstorm activities.

However, Konkan would continue to remain warm and dry throughout. Thus, Mumbai would remain warm and sultry. These pre-Monsoon showers are likely to dissipate after 48 hours and the temperatures would start rising again over almost all the regions.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

In wake of thunderstorm in Vidarbha, fruit drop in Mango, Sweet lime, and Orange may be a chance. Further, farmers are advised to prepone the harvesting of fruit crops.

Farmers are advised to continue irrigation of Maize, groundnut and paddy crop in view of rising temperatures. In Konkan, farmers should continue the harvesting of paddy crop, while farmers can initiate the harvesting of groundnut crop in Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra.
