Till now people across North and Central India had been reeling under intense hot weather conditions during the daytime, but now nights are also becoming warmer.

In the coming days, people will be witnessing hot and uneasy nights as minimum temperatures across most parts of the country have been registering significant increase for the last couple of days. The night temperatures are settling above the monthly average by three to four degrees.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, hot and dry northwesterly winds coming from central Pakistan are pushing up the day temperatures in North and Central India. After sunset, the temperature starts to drop but continuous flow of warm northwesterly winds arrest the rate of decrease, resulting in high minimum temperature.

Let us have a look at the minimum temperatures across some of the cities during the last three days.

Please note: Temperatures in °C

An approaching Western Disturbance and a cyclonic circulation that is prevailing over central Pakistan and adjoining area will be affecting North and Central India. This will lead to cloud cover, which will arrest the drop in minimum temperatures due to greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is created when the outgoing long wave radiation during night is trapped between earth and cloud.

However, some places like Amritsar and its neighbouring areas are observing pleasant nights as cool northeasterly winds are blowing over the region.
