After heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, showers to reduceThe state of Tamil Nadu due to its location in the rain shadow area does not witness enough rains during the Southwest Monsoon. In fact, Tamil Nadu sees heavy rains during Northeast Monsoon when at times even flood like conditions are seen over the state.

As far as Southwest Monsoon season is concerned, Tamil Nadu rain picks up pace when a break, weak or a limited Monsoon period is witnessed. Then, easterly systems develop along the Coast resulting in rains over the state.

The last 24 hours have also seen some good rainfall activities wherein some hefty showers were seen at isolated pockets. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Chennai recorded a whopping 42 mm of rains, Madurai 33.6 mm, Cuddalore saw 79.7 mm of rains, Parangipettai saw 80 mm of rainfall, and Puducherry 25 mm.

A cyclonic circulation is over Interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas. Added to this, a system is over Odisha and adjoining areas as well. The combination has caused some heavy spells of rainfall in some pockets.

Meanwhile, Monsoon has remained subdued over other parts of the country with the last three days observing deficient rains pan India. Moreover, the last 24 hours saw 30 percent less rains across the country.

Now, rains will reduce over the state of Tamil Nadu with isolated pockets observing some light showers during the next 24 hours.
