After Kerala missed its official Monsoon onset date of June 1, pre-Monsoon showers picked up from June 3, intensifying on June 4. This led to the declaration of Monsoon onset on June 5. A trough over southeast Arabian Sea aided the rainfall activity over the state but now this trough has developed into a low pressure area and is moving in a northwest direction.
Due to the movement of the system, the rain belt will now shift north of Kerala and give rain over Karnataka and coastal Maharashtra for the next 2 to 3 days.
As moisture and wind will get concentrated around the low pressure area, we expect that rainfall over Kerala, Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka will reduce significantly. And a trough over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will give fairly widespread rain over both the state in next 48 hours.
The Arabian Sea system is expected to move further away from the coast due to which the rain belt over Andhra Pradesh will also move towards west and give heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places over Telangana, North Interior Karnataka and parts of Maharashtra.
In view of the reduced weather activity, the temperatures in parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala will rise once again.
