After East Coast, Cyclone Roanu to give rains in Northeast India

May 21, 2016 11:43 AM |

Rain in NortheastAfter battering entire Indian East Coast, Cyclone Roanu is now all set to give torrential rains over Northeast India. Particularly parts of Lower Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will witness heavy to very rains during next 24 hours.

Isolated places are likely to witness extremely heavy rain and thundershowers as well.

Squally winds of damaging potential with speed of 60 kmph-80 kmph gusting up to 100 kmph will be blowing over the region.

After skirting West Bengal coast, Cyclone Roanu is now heading in east-northeast direction towards Bangladesh coast. After making landfall near Chittagong coast in Bangladesh, the system will weaken significantly. Thereafter, it is likely to move towards northeast region as well-marked low-pressure area only.

Northeast India has been recording good rain and thundershowers ever since the weather system had developed in Southwest Bay of Bengal. The system was constantly feeding the moisture over the region, leading to rain.

However, rains had reduced over the region since Friday as the system moved closer to Odisha and West Bengal coast, concentrating all the moisture and winds towards itself.

In span of last few days, Cyclone Roanu has given some torrential rain across the East Coast, extending right from Tamil Nadu coast to West Bengal Coast.

Record-breaking rainfall figures were recorded over several parts of Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
