The city of Kolkata has been witnessing dry weather conditions for the past few days now. Moreover, this month has not been fruitful enough for the City of Joy for February only seeing traces of rainfall and that too on just about four days or so.

The monthly average rains for February in Kolkata are at 20.9 mm. So far, the city has only seen close to 1 mm of rains, making it highly deficient this month.

Talking about the current scenario, the maximum and the minimum temperatures are running three degrees above the normal levels.

Now, rains are all set to make an appearance over Kolkata on February 24 and will continue until February 27. Rains will be isolated in nature on February 24.

Reason for these rains will be attributed to the likely formation of a Confluence Zone. Anti-Cyclone in the Bay of Bengal will result in the inflow of southeasterly winds over the region along with northwesterly winds which will merge over Kolkata and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal. A trough will also extend from Jharkhand to Gangetic West Bengal.

Thereafter, on February 25 and 26, a Trough will extend from Punjab to Gangetic West Bengal which will increase rainfall activity over Kolkata as well as Gangetic West Bengal. This Trough will weaken but a north south trough will form from Gangetic West Bengal to Sub Himalayan West Bengal on February 27 due to which fairly widespread rains are expected over Kolkata and entire Gangetic West Bengal.

February 28 onward, the system will move towards Northeast and weather will become dry over Kolkata.
