After Delhi and Amritsar, Patiala records single digit maximum temperature

As we approach the second half of December, many parts of North India have constantly been experiencing a dramatic drop in maximum temperatures. Just a few days after Delhi and Amritsar experienced single digit maximum temperatures, Patiala has also observed some unusual temperature. On December 22, Patiala recorded the lowest maximum temperature of 9°C in the last ten years.

Most pockets of North India, observe significantly lower temperatures during this time. Usually, Patiala as an  exception in this region does not experience such significant drop in the temperatures. However, this year day maximums have dropped way below normal to single digit. This drop in the maximum was last seen ten years back, when the temperature was at 10.6°C on December 28, 2003. Even then, the maximum temperature remained in double digits.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the thick envelope of fog across Patiala is not permitting the temperature to rise, leading to inclement weather conditions. Also, there is a Western Disturbance moving across Jammu & Kashmir, which is causing widespread clouding restricting the rise in maximum day temperatures. One can only expect an increase in temperature when the persistent fog finally recedes thereby allowing some sunlight to pass through Patiala.
