Northeast India is one of the rainiest pockets and has a large influencing in driving Pan India Monsoon towards either the surplus side or towards deficiency. Southwest Monsoon also makes an onset over Northeast India in the beginning itself giving it a complete four month long period.
This time also, Monsoon did make a timely onset over the northeastern pockets of the country. Moreover, flooding conditions were also observed over many parts of the state during that time for about a week or so.
However, rains were of scanty nature thereafter, leading to the June deficiency in most parts of Northeast India. In fact, except Mizoram and Tripura, rest of the five states saw rainfall on the deficient side only.
In the month of July, the deficient rainfall saga continued and as of today, the deficiency not only continues but has increased. Even the two regions which were surplus before, have become deficient.
Now, during the next one week, on account of the secondary Monsoon trough shifting close to the foothills running right across Arunachal Pradesh, rainfall activity is expected to revive over the entire Northeast India. In fact, winds will also become westerly in nature which will further add to the rain amounts.
