Cold wave conditions have been prevailing across the states of Delhi and Haryana, along with isolated pockets of Punjab. The minimums have been settling below normal in the northern plains. For instance, Delhi saw minimums settling at 5.9 degrees Celsius, while Karnal in Haryana saw night temperatures settling at 4 degrees Celsius. All these temperatures were 5 degrees below normal. Similarly, Rohtak observed minimum temperature at 4.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Hisar at 4.2 degrees Celsius, which were again 6 degrees below normal.
Few places in Punjab like Ludhiana and Bhatinda have been settling 3 degrees below normal as at 4.8 degrees Celsius and 5 degrees Celsius, respectively. Also, Patiala recorded 5.4 degrees Celsius which is 4 degrees below normal.
Although its effect has not been felt as days have been fairly pleasant in the presence of sunny skies. As a result, maximum temperatures have been settling around 20 degrees Celsius.
Looking at the forecast, we now expect the minimums to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana in the next two to three days, leading to abatement of cold wave conditions in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.
According to weathermen, a Western Disturbance is marked over Jammu and Kashmir, which would obstruct the flow of cold winds. It is likely to clear away the region by February 14. Thereafter, once again cold winds from the northwest direction are expected to blow over the northern plains of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, leading to a drop in minimum temperature.
However, this time the fall in minimums will not be much. The effect of cold winds will remain in the entire northern plains until February 16. During the same time, winter chill can also be felt in some parts of northern plains but the weather of entire northern plains will remain almost dry.
