Remnants of Nada to give light rains over Bengaluru
A cyclonic storm Nada had formed over Southwest Bay of Bengal resulting in the revival of Northeast Monsoon. While Chennai received heavy rains during this period, good rains were recorded in other parts of South India as well.
During this period, one place that received light rains was the capital city of Karnataka, Bengaluru. While the city only received light rains during the last two days, it has been a welcoming news for the residents of Bengaluru who had been craving for some good rains since a long time.
While Bengaluru recorded 6 mm on Thursday, the city received 4.4 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours. Cyclone Nada has crossed the Tamil Nadu coast in the form of a depression. Now, it has further weakened into a low-pressure area and lies over Kerala.
However, the weather system on its way has left a lot of moisture. Thus, the remnants of Cyclone Nada are expected to give light rains over Bengaluru during the next 24 hours.
Nada gives light rain in Bengaluru, more in offing
After giving moderate to heavy rains over Tamil Nadu, Nada is now approaching towards Bengaluru. The storm which is now seen as a depression has already given light rains over the city.
Bengaluru has recorded 6 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday. Moreover, we expect rains to continue for another 24 hours but it will be light in nature.
Cyclone Nada had weakened significantly before approaching land mass and crossed the coast on early morning of Friday as a depression only. It is likely to weaken further into a well-marked low pressure area during the next 12 hours.
Now, the system will move in west direction towards Kerala and Interior Karnataka, giving light rains and thundershowers over several areas of the region including Bengaluru.
At present also, Bengaluru is witnessing cloudy to overcast sky and rains may begin anytime now.
By looking at the latest developments of weather, Cyclone Nada is most likely to weaken. The weather system will weaken very fast and may become a deep depression or depression as it approaches Tamil Nadu Coast.

After making the landfall the system will continue to track towards west-northwest direction. And in the process the system will affect South Karnataka during next 24- 48 hours. So after rattling Chennai the system will give rains over South Karnataka including Bangalore.
Most parts of South Karnataka will receive fairly widespread light to moderate rains with few parts may receive isolated heavy rainfall in parts. With respect to this system’s downpour, Bangalore will receive light to moderate rainfall in next 24-48 hours. Some rainfall activity may even be witnessed tonight in some parts of Bangalore.
The sky of Bangalore is most likely to remain cloudy. The temperature of the city is likely to drop and mild winds are expected to blow.
Last rainfall recorded over the city of Bangalore was during the start of November. Even that time as well the city recorded only light rainfall. Till then dry weather persisted over the city of Bangalore.
From October 1 to November 23 the rainfall figures of various places in the state of Karnataka has been drastically low. Gadag is 98% rainfall deficient, the rural parts of Bangalore has been rainfall deficient by 73% whereas the urban Bangalore is staggering rainfall deficient by 93%. Mysore and Mangalore has been rainfall deficient by 90% and 78% respectively.
