Northeast Monsoon ended on a surplus note for most parts of South India. The New Year also started on a good note for the region. Light to moderate rain was observed in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu along with a few heavy spells. The weather activity continued in the region until January 6.
Strong north-easterlies coupled with the Cyclonic Circulation over South Tamil Nadu gave the rains in the region. So it was The spell of weather from December 29 to January 6 sustained for a long period.
These systems are now on the verge of weakening since the last two days and as a result, the rain intensity has gone down significantly in the last 48 hours.
According to Skymet’s meteorologists, the Cyclonic Circulation over South Tamil Nadu would soon dissipate and north-easterlies are further likely to lose their strength. Thus, in the absence of any strong system, dry weather conditions are expected to take over most parts of the southern peninsula soon.
But, at the same time, the weather models are also indicating the development of a feeble Trough, extending up to Telangana, which might give scattered rain in Telangana on January 8. Hyderabad also stands a chance to see light showers.
These rains, however, might not be very significant and will remain on the lower side on January 9 before making a complete exit on January 10. Thereafter, no such significant rainfall activity is likely for at least a week in entire South India.
