Chennai rains which had been wreaking havoc over the region for the last few days had taken a break yesterday. Rainfall activity had reduced to quite an extent and that non-rainy day was a breather for the residents of the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
During the last 24 hours, while during the day there were almost no rains recorded over the city, during the night time, some rains were seen over the city. Even during the morning hours today, rains did remain on the backseat.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Nungambakkam observatory recorded a mere 9 mm of rains while Minambakkam observatory saw a good 20 mm of rainfall.
The low pressure area which was persisting close to Sri Lanka coast has now become a trough of low and is now lying over Tamil Nadu and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This system is expected to weaken gradually.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, today, during the afternoon hours, a couple of short spells of rains are expected over the city. However, during the night time, these rains are expected to pick up pace.
Thus, moderate to heavy showers are expected to persist over the city of Chennai during the next 24 to 48 hours. The prevailing situation will continue to remain the same for at least some time now.
